The Sun Is Finally Out

November 7, 2009

Nashville is finally sunny. In fact, it hasn’t rained in several days. September and October were so grey and wet, and I’m hoping the month of November brings more sunshine. It’s so beautiful here right now, and I’m much more productive when it’s not raining. So, with all the nicer weather, I’ve been getting out and about a lot more.

This past Thursday, I got together with Mandy and Amanda for my monthly fro-yo fix. So fun girls – I loved getting to see you both.

IMG_3611.JPG

We went to Sweet CeCe’s, a new frozen yogurt establishment right up the street from my house. It’s all self-serve and every flavor was so creamy and delicious…um, look whose cup was the biggest. Oops. ๐Ÿ™‚ Definitely not low-cal like Yogurt Oasis, my go-to yogurt shop of choice, but still totally yummy.

Then, guess who called ME to attend another hot vinyasa yoga class on Friday morning?

IMG_3612.JPG

Me and my brother after getting our sweat on at the 6 AM Power Yoga class at Hot Yoga Nashville. Nice sweat pattern HEAB. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve also been having some fun in the kitchen. For lunch yesterday, I had my Operation Chocolate Covered Kindness Meal of the Day:

IMG_3620.JPG

I made Katie’s Monster-Mashed Cauliflower. I blurred out the chicken sausage next to it as it was definitely NOT Katie inspired. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve made this dish before, and I’ve decided it’s much prettier with purple cauliflower.

IMG_2146.JPG

Much more enticing, don’t ya think?

Today involved a 90 minute hike with the pups and not one, but 2 meals in-a-jar thus far. Seriously y’all, between the tahini and the Sunbutter, I’m thinking of renaming my blog Heather Eats Seed Butter. Poor Mr. Almond Butter has been pushed to the back of the cabinet. Oh, and I bought some raw hazelnuts at Trader Joe’s yesterday for some homemade Nutella experiments made with stevia. So get excited! Oh, and speaking of stevia, time to announce the winners of my NuNaturals Stevia Giveaway...

And according to the random number generator, the 4 winners are:

Oh my goodness, you make me laugh with your chicken-censorship!
You and your bro look so cute! And I love the scarf in the first pic.

    Happy Saturday, pretty girl!!

  2. November 7, 2009 2:58 pm

fro yo+ hot vinyasa sounds like a perfect week to me!
    love em both.

happy saturday from me to you as well. xoxo

  3. November 7, 2009 2:58 pm

There’s nothing wrong with having the biggest cup… for me, the biggest cup of fro-yo means the happiest tastebuds. ๐Ÿ˜€ and purple cauliflower. Love it.

  4. November 7, 2009 3:00 pm

I’m excited to see how the Nutella experiment plans out! I was thinking about doing some experiments of my own!
I had only had Nutella in Paris, and I was so sad to get some as a gift and realize that it was so far from being vegan! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  5. November 7, 2009 3:10 pm

The purple cauliflower is definitely prettier eheh
Glad you had a good time with your friends ๐Ÿ™‚
    Hmmm pancakes. ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. November 7, 2009 3:23 pm

Sounds like a perfect weekend so far you’re having!! Love Katie’s mashed cauliflower.. Its in season now, so Im ready to mash away ๐Ÿ™‚

Cute, fun photos as always ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. November 7, 2009 3:33 pm

    purple caulliflower is exciting ๐Ÿ™‚
I am so jealous of all these self serve froyo places online because we don’t even get any type of fro yo places up in New England

  9. November 7, 2009 3:47 pm

Censoring that chicken sausage has actually had a slight reverse-effect of making it look like something even more worthy of censoring ๐Ÿ˜‰ Much appreciation from a vegan perspective though and it certainly made me smile!

Sunflower seed butter is indeed divine ~ I’m sure Mr.Almond Butter will forgive you in time though.

I love the way you glow so visibly at 6:00am…your hair in particular is looking so lovely at the moment ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hope you’re having a great week-end

Mmm, fro-yo. A new fro-yo place is about to open two doors down from my office and I think it’s self serve as well. I can already tell that it’s not going to be easy to avoid, thank god it’s almost winter and I won’t be craving it as much!

Mmm! Frozen yogurt! I haven’t allowed that for myself (but for two spoonfuls when my parents came to Boston visiting) in ages! May I ask what your flavor of choice is?

  12. November 7, 2009 4:19 pm

    The cauliflower looks like Easter!

  13. November 7, 2009 4:20 pm

Holly, Honestly, I’m a chocolate and vanilla swirl kind of gal. I think the cup pictured contained pumpkin, vanilla, and chocolate. I also love anything with peanut butter or mint. I never get the fruity flavors. ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. November 7, 2009 4:24 pm

I was just talking about fro-yo with a fellow blogger last night at our ATL blogger meet-up and it made me suddenly crave it and I cannot shake it… only one way to solve such a problem!

Love the purple cauliflower!! I really miss hot yoga…maybe I can convince the sis we should really find a studio : ) That is so nice your brother and you can enjoy doing something together that is also so good for your health!

  17. November 7, 2009 4:48 pm

Love the purple mashed cauliflower. I make a millet/cardamon/cauliflower mashed dish, soo good. And yes, it’s finally sunny in Philly too after days and days of clouds! It’s so nice to finally see the sun.

  18. November 7, 2009 4:51 pm

Food-Fitness-FreshAir, I would love your millet mash recipe! Please share. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. November 7, 2009 4:54 pm

Sometimes I get upset that I didn’t win a contest and then I realize I never entered it in the first place. Love your purple cauliflower, I want to make that!

Pancake Sunday?! I like where your head’s at, Heather! I foresee pancakes in my future, too..

That purple cauliflower is gorgeous- that would definitely make any kid who doesn’t like veggies more receptive to eating their vegetables, don’t you think? Have a great Saturday!

  21. November 7, 2009 5:25 pm

Purple cauliflower is just freaky. I don’t like cauliflower but the purpleness makes me want to try it. Perhaps in some roasted mashed version.

  22. November 7, 2009 5:32 pm

I love your purple cauliflower. ๐Ÿ™‚ Your brother does yoga? How cool!

  23. November 7, 2009 5:32 pm

Oh Heather, you don’t sweat – you glisten ๐Ÿ˜‰ Brother and sister yoga bonding — absolutely adorable ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. November 7, 2009 5:35 pm

ah! So fun! Maybe we can take a hot yoga class when I come? Are they open the Wednesday before tgiving? And froyo- you know that is music to my ears ๐Ÿ˜‰

  25. November 7, 2009 5:35 pm

So happy I won! Thank you Heather = ).

-Nice brother you’ve got! I wish one of the 3 of my bros would do yoga with me!

  26. November 7, 2009 5:45 pm

AWESOME sweat patterns. i think we could be sweating buddies!

and i love the fro yo! i’m jealous…totally wanting some and can’t find any; freak’n tx!

  27. November 7, 2009 5:50 pm

You’re so funny telling us to get excited. Like we wouldn’t!

We’re getting sunny periods with periods of black skies and thunder/lightning. It’s crazy time here!

I was just telling Chris that I’ve fallen out of my tart froyo habit when I was soooo hooked. Guess that’s what 43 degrees outside will do for ya.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend – can’t wait to see the pancakes!

Pancake sunday used to be that way in our house too. I need to get back to that. That purple cauliflower looks so fun to eat! Hot yoga hmmm interesting concept may need to try. I love this gorgeous Midwest weather! I went on a long walk myself with the pups.

  29. November 7, 2009 6:13 pm

Jessica, I don’t think Scottie had done much yoga before this week, but he went to 2 hot vinyasa classes with me. We’re going to try and make it a Friday morning tradition.

  30. November 7, 2009 6:14 pm

Erica, I would love to take a yoga class with you. I’ll look into it!

  31. November 7, 2009 6:18 pm

Oh how I wish they would make vegan soy-free fro-yo someday! I would be all up in that biznessss errrreday. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  32. November 7, 2009 6:29 pm

Shelby, They do!!! http://www.americanoats.com/index.html You just have to go to Minneapolis to get it. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Heather, you are a workout beast. I pale in comparison with my casual walks.
Is that tortilla chips by the cauliflower in the second picture?
And I eat so much nut butter every day, its not normal!
What were you two in-a-jar meals today? Did they involve a squash or oat protein powder concoction?
I am jealous of your yogaing. I might try a Hot Yoga class next week but I worry that I will not be able to keep up or hold the positions. I am a weakling! Is there any good cardio benefits to it as well? And how far in advance should I eat before I go?

  36. November 7, 2009 6:57 pm

Valerie, Yes, the tortilla chips were the flax veggie chips from Trader Joe’s – love them!

I had oat bran in the jar, and some protein ice-cream in the jar. My nut butter consumption is out of control too. At least 5 to 6 spoonfuls today, but I love it so!

Yoga will work every single muscle in your body – trust me, you’ll be sore in places you never even thought you could be. I’m not a huge fan of Bikram (what most people think of as Hot Yoga), but I do love a good power yoga class in a heated studio. If you’re doing some type flow class, yes, it will elevate your heart rate, but the gentler, Hatha type classes are not much of a “cardio” workout. You should try it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  39. November 7, 2009 7:43 pm

Next time I am in Nashville I am totally doing hot yoga!! FUN!!

  40. November 7, 2009 8:01 pm

I’ve never seen purple cauliflower – craziness ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes to Yoga!! We practiced all day in Standing postures today…long and tiring – and I reallllllllly need to work on my balance apparently…yikes.

Congrats to all the Stevia winners!

  41. November 7, 2009 8:15 pm

And you have nothing on me, I zoom past 6 tbsps per day easily! (and nope, I am not stretching the truth).
P.S…you try to avoic the dairy right? So what kind of fro-yo did you get then? There are good soy and coconut milk ice creams available now you should try.

  43. November 7, 2009 8:45 pm

I’m down with purple cauliflower. That’s awesome! hehe

And all I keep reading about is this sun/seed whatever butter! I’m going to need to get my hands on some asap. PLUS I have YET to try almond butter.. I need to catch up!

Have a wonderful and safe night, lovely lady!
    With love,
    REbecca

  44. November 7, 2009 9:09 pm

Valerie, I love coconut milk and rice milk ice-creams, but I don’t do soy (intolerant). As far as the fro-yo in that picture goes, I *try* and avoid dairy…but I don’t always succeed. ๐Ÿ™‚

  45. November 7, 2009 9:17 pm

Ooh, ooh Nutella! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

    Hi Heather!

I feel like it has been ages since we’ve talked. Definitely need to catch up soon and see if we can meet up in Arizona over the upcoming holidays. Can’t believe it’s already that time of year again but I’m not complaining ๐Ÿ™‚

Your fro yo looks just the right size! Hurray for fun with food bloggers.

My favorite pictures in this post are the purple cauliflower (yum!) and the hot yoga with your bro. My sweat always creates some interesting patterns — it’s the sign of a good workout, right?

I hope you’ve been enjoying your weekend! Talk to you soon!

  49. November 8, 2009 12:33 am

    Hey Heather!
I wanted to tell you that tomorrow (Sunday) morning i’m going to Lululemon for a free yoga class! Thanks for talking about it in your post, it led me to look it up and there’s one 5 minutes away from me!

    Enjoy your pancake Sunday!

Holy cow I can’t wait to see what you do with the raw hazelnuts. I’m actually making my weekly trip to TJ’s in a few so I will be sure to pick some up.
Glad to see the sunshine is back in your life! And I LOVE how your brother called you to go back to hot yoga. (I actually fell deeply in love with the hot yoga class I went to for my birthday. Must.Go.Back.Soon. So long as no one yells out for Pigeon!)

Oh I hear ya about the fro-yo. Its my current obession. So tasty!! The purple cauliflower mash looks great. It does look more enticing with the vibrant purple color I must say. The little reddish blobs in the cauliflower picture reminded me of little goji berries. How pretty would that be for a garnish! hehe. Im on my way to Whole Foods to grab up some sunbutter to try out! Have a great day!

I am looking forward to trying the mashed cauliflowers, they look yummy : )
You are so lucky to have your brother close by to do things like sweaty yoga classes, it look’s like so much fun!

  59. November 8, 2009 7:50 pm

Ooo…Sweet CeCe’s is my favorite. I recently went there and discovered they had a pumpkin flavor!! I usually only get the tart, but the pumpkin was divine as well. (And, calorie-wise, it’s really not very high as they use nonfat milk. Well, it’s not high until you pile on all of those yummy toppings. Ha.)

  60. November 8, 2009 7:56 pm

Carrie, I had the pumpkin – oh my gosh. So good! I skipped the toppings, but only b/c I piled too much yogurt in my cup – cost me almost $6. I was almost embarrassed, but not enough not to finish off every last bite. ๐Ÿ™‚
